About Superstar Readers

Superstar Readers is Cottonwood’s full English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum, available to all families for free!

Grounded in the Science of Reading, a body of research that explains how children learn to read and the most effective ways to teach them, Superstar Readers emphasizes systematic, explicit instruction in foundational skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

ELA Curriculum

Superstar Readers provides comprehensive resources to support literacy at home, including:

  • Engaging video lessons
  • Student workbooks
  • Decodable texts
  • Shared readers

Families may use the program independently as a full curriculum or combine it with the support of our live online classes. Click on each level below to access all online materials.

Flexible Learning Options

In addition to self-paced materials, Superstar Readers offers live Zoom classes, where students can learn alongside a credentialed teacher and peers. Families are welcome to preview classes at any time through the links and calendar below. Sign up during open enrollment with the TK-8 Request Form, or outside open enrollment by emailing SuperstarReaders@cottonwoodk12.org.

By connecting with Superstar Readers, families gain access to a research-based pathway to reading success that can be tailored to fit their unique needs.

Required Materials

Books

Students read decodable books and listen to shared readers in each weekly module. Books are available on each level page below or in the Learning A-Z app.

Learning A-Z is our independent learning app for students. Students will listen to our shared readers and read their decodable books in the Foundations planet section under Quests. Students can also explore different areas of the app to practice their reading skills and learn on their own. Watch our short Learning A-Z Video for a demonstration on how to find the class books in the app.

Students can access the decodable books online in the Learning A-Z app and/or check out a printed decodable book set from the Lending Library. Come in to the Lending Library to check out a book set, or you can use their website to request your set.

To reserve a printed book set, log in to your student’s library account. Search Superstar Readers, and choose your level. Click reserve. Requests for van pick up or shipping should be made with the Library on Location form after reserving your book set in their system.

Students complete written assignments that go along with each lesson. Parents can print out the student workbook pages individually or as complete workbooks from the workbook PDFs, available on each level page below.

If you would like to order the printed workbook, follow the instructions in the Order Superstar Readers Workbooks video. Order the workbook through Procurify by choosing “add from catalog” and searching Superstar a la carte. Read the Ordering Newsletter (Newsletter #2) for comprehensive instructions on logging into Procurify and placing orders.
