UTK-8 Report Cards

UTK-8 Report Cards

At The Cottonwood School, we care about the Whole Child. Teachers take into account a student’s overall learning and achievement. We look beyond the standards to see the big picture of a student’s learning journey. UTK-8 report cards consider a combination of the following:

  • I CAN Statements
  • Learning as demonstrated at monthly meetings through work samples, learning activity discussions and share-outs, etc.
  • Progress in your chosen homeschool approach or curriculum platform
  • Quality of student work
  • Student effort
  • Student engagement in new learning
  • Outside-of-the-box assignments
  • Intervention and enrichment participation
  • Progress in a supplemental program/curriculum resource

UTK-5th 6th-8th
EE = Exceeds Expectations A = 90-100%
ME = Meets Expectations B = 80-89%
BE = Below Expectations C = 70-79%
AR = At Risk D = 60-69%
NG = No Grade Earned

Adding Comments

If you add comments to the report card, please keep them professional and use your best judgment. You may ask your parents for feedback about what they would like to see, but you will ultimately comment as the Teacher of Record. You are not required to use the comments parents ask you to add. Additionally, please do not add comments suggesting a need for intervention, extra funding, or anything else that may place the school in a position to provide services that have not been determined by an IEP team.

Sample Report Card Email

Dear [Insert Parent’s Name],
Thank you for choosing the report card option for your child. As you know, at The Cottonwood School, we consider the whole child when assigning grades. During our regular learning review meetings you have shared all the learning that has occurred during the first half of the school year. I will be using the information you shared along with your feedback to determine a grade for the following subjects: Language Arts, Mathematics, History, and Science. High school students will receive grades in all their assigned courses.

Please send me your ideas about what grades you feel your student has earned this semester. We will work closely together to ensure that the grade is reflective of your student’s learning.
