Our EL Support Team will administer all initial and summative TK-2 ELPACs. However, it is *possible* that you could be called upon to give your student an initial or summative ELPAC if they are unable to for any reason. If this happens, you will be provided with training.

Initial ELPAC

Initial ELPAC will be conducted by the ELD Team in August before school starts.

Initial ELPAC is an ongoing process. When a student enrolls in school for the first time, families are asked to complete the Home Language Survey, HLS. If there is any language other than English on the HLS, students are given the Initial ELPAC.
We have 30 days to administer the assessment. This is a state-mandated timeline.

If the HST or the parent feels that there is an error on the HLS in a student completes the Initial ELPAC, they must reach out to the ELD Team BEFORE the student begins the initial ELPAC.

ELPAC logo3-12 Summative ELPAC

The Summative ELPAC for 3rd-12th grade will be administered in February. There will be a schedule and sheet shared with HSTs to sign up their students for speaking appointments with a proctor who will have completed the mandatory Moodle training to proctor the test to your students.

HSTs with EL students will be required to do the following:

  • Enter a time on the 3-12 Summative ELPAC sheet for your student to take the speaking test with a trained proctor.
  • Ensure that your student shows up to the designated test time with their speaking proctor. If they miss their time, you will have to complete the Moodle training to administer the speaking portion of the ELPAC.
  • Administer the reading, listening, and writing portion of the ELPAC to your student virtually.

Students will need the updated secure browser downloaded on the computer. Cottonwood Chromebooks are available for students to use and will have the updated browser downloaded.

TK-2nd Summative ELPAC

The Summative ELPAC for TK-2nd grade is scheduled for late April to early May, administered by the EL team. Testing later allows maximum learning time. Younger students focus on reading later in the year, aiming to boost speaking and reading mastery, enhancing reclassification chances. A schedule and signup document will be shared with HSTs.
HSTs with EL students will be required to do the following:

  • Work with the family on scheduling students for their 1:1 test and sign them up providing all of the requested information. Be sure to sign students up with the correct proctor (note the grade-level assignments on the tabs at the bottom). Note this time in your calendar so you can remind the family. The proctor will also email the family a reminder.
  • Ensure that your student shows up to the designated test time with the proctor.
  • If they miss their time, you will have to complete the Moodle training to administer the Summative ELPAC.

1:1 Makeup Testing for all ELPAC

If a student misses their assigned testing session and rescheduling isn’t possible, it’s your responsibility to conduct a 1:1 test. To do this, you must complete a 4-5 hour Moodle training and certification before administering the test to the student.

How to Find Your Students’ ELPAC Test Scores

    • Go to the Pathways student dashboard and look under test scores.
    • Click on the graph symbol “View CAASPP/ELPAC PDFs.” This will pull up the PDFs for CAASPP scores.

*Note: If you are unable to see your students’ test scores, it could be because they are in the process of switching over to Cottonwood from another school. Once the student is “ours” in CALPADS and they are showing in TOMS, you will see their scores in Pathways. All scores now follow students electronically. It just takes some time for all the information to flow. Thank you for your patience.
